Peace Music, Niche Productions and Music Max are proud to present2 time Grammy winners , soul legends Kool & The Gang, as they bring their electric 12 piece stage show to Australia for the first time. With over 70 million album sales to date and a career spanning 35 years, Kool & The Gang deliver the Jungle Boogie to Australia in February 2011.
In Sydney and Melbourne ONLY , Kool & The Gang will be joined by none other than the maestro of the xylophone, soul statesman Roy Ayers and his 6 piece band . Together, Kool and Roy will take you on a fantastic voyage into the living history of soul, disco and funk.
Emerging in the mid 1960’s at the edge of the developing instrumental funk and psychedelic jazz scenes, Kool & The Gang’s self titled debut generated little impact when it was first released, however today it is regarded as a funk classic, and has gone on to be sampled countless times by hip hop and pop producers from around the globe making them officially the most sampled band of all time .
After the release of their polarizing soul anthem, ‘Jungle Boogie’ , in 1973, Kool & the Gang quickly became one of the biggest groups in the world and today are regarded as some of the most important pioneers in soul music. Toward the end of the 70’s their sound crystalised into the infectious instrumental soul that they’re most recognised for today, epitomized by their anthemic hit ‘ Celebration! ’, which spent almost a month at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in February, 1981.
Appearing with Kool in both Sydney and Melbourne is a name similarly synonymous with the formation of the soul and disco sound – dynamic Roy Ayers, who returns to Australia after a spirited tour with Niche Productions in 2008. Growing up in Los Angeles, Ayers was given his first pair of mallets at the age of five by the legendary Lionel Hampton, which led to the vibraphone being his signature sound ever since.
Known as one of the prophets of soul and acid jazz , Roy Ayers was a man decades ahead of his time. From his jazz days in the 60s, to his R&B band-leading of the 70s and 80s, his worldly fusing of musical styles has led to collaborations with an abundance of artists, including his 1980 ‘Music Of Many Colours’ album with Nigerian afrobeat activist Fela Kuti, and more recently with acts such as Erykah Badu and The Roots.
The bringing together of these two artists will mark legendary performances at both The Enmore and The Palais Theatres.
Don’t miss this once in a life time chance to take trip back in time with two of soul music’s greatest pioneers.
